Top Ten Justin Bieber Hits
Disclaimer: This Hub was written as a challenge. My friends Julie Fletcher,Ghostwolfe and I sent each other ten Hub titles, and we have to write one Hub for each. This Hub title is one ofGhostwolfe's. I believe he hates me. Why else would he give a 41 year old metal head a list of Justin Bieber songs to write?
Justin Bieber has managed a large amount of success in just a short time. Not only is he the object of millions of screaming girls' affection, but he's pretty much everywhere, on all the talk shows, all of the music awards shows. He even put in an appearance at Cannes this year!
I officially talk a lot of smack about Bieber, but I will not ignore the fact that he has talent, and is arguably loads better than most of the other pop stars these days in that he actively writes his own lyrics, some of the music and can play instruments.
Though just now 18 years old, he's already racked up enough hits to complete a top ten list. With four albums already under his belt, Bieber shows no signs of slowing down. Bieber Fever is here to stay.
Here are Bieber's top ten hits as of June 3, 2012, in order.
10. Turn to You
Turn to You is Bieber's dedication to his mom, his 'adoptive mom' and mothers everywhere. Released on May 11, 2012, primarily as a digital download, Turn to You is an independent single that was not part of any official Justin Bieber album. It is not only partially written by Bieber, he had a hand in it's production, as well.
The song talks about how his mother was very young when she had him, and that she did virtually everything she could, including working two jobs, to keep a roof over their heads.
Turn to You is also one of very few pop songs that actively talk about Christianity and how it is a comfort and a strength to those in need.
Bieber credits his mother's strength for helping him find his way to where he is now.
Because this release was primarily digital only, the song did not sell as well as many other Bieber singles, only charting at number sixty on the Billboard Hot 100chart.
Though there is no official video for this song, the audio is available on YouTube through Justin Bieber's offical channel.
9. U Smile
From the album My World 2.0, U Smile was releasd as a digital-only single on August 9, 2010 and sold over eighty thousand copies in it's first week of release. It was also a song that Bieber dedicated to his fans. Probably at least partially due to it's digital-only format, the song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100chart at number 27, though it did crack the top twenty on the Canadian charts.
The song is one of few acoustic-style tunes that didn't have Bieber relying on R&B or hip-hop as a vehicle. It is one of his few actual ballads. In it, Bieber tells his girl that he will do whatever she wants because 'when you smile, I smile.'
Critics loved the song, as did the fans. It was labled as a throw-back to old soul, and was compared to acts like Hall & Oates.
The video itself is also a throwback, a nod to the less flashy, less CGI-driven videos of the past. It is simple, straight forward and entertaining.
8. One Time
One Time is the debut single from Bieber's first album, My World. This is the song that started it all, apart from the now-famous viral YouTube videos. First released in the US on May 18, 2009 (which means that Justin Bieber has been a part of our lexicon for over three years now), the song peaked at number 17 on theBillboard Hot 100 chart, but did break the top ten in other countries.
The song is a tween young love tale, Bieber is telling his girlfriend that she makes his heart go 'knock, knock.'
The video is kind of funny. It is set at Bieber's mentor, Usher's house. Usher calls Bieber on the phone and asks him to house-sit which, of course, can only mean one thing - HOUSE PARTY! This was Bieber's first professional video, all of the viral videos on YouTube had been done with regular camcorders or webcams.
7. One Less Lonely Girl
Certified platinum (selling one million or more copies), One Less Lonely Girl never actually managed to break the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100chart, it peaked at number sixteen. The song is from Bieber's My Worldalbum and was released on October 6, 2009, just before the true beginning of Bieber Mania.
One Less Lonely Girl is about young love, Bieber is promissing the girl that he won't do her wrong like others have. He only has eyes for her.
The video is a cute scavenger hunt that Bieber sends a girl he met at a laundromat on, so that she can have a date with him. It was appealing to a lot of young people, because the setting of the video could have been anywhere.
The video actually premiered on the website of (sometimes horribly inaccurate) Hollywood gossip, Perez Hilton.
